The story of the movie proceeds with two main characters ; Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari . The movie sums up a tale of two close childhood friends . But due to certain circumstances they grow farther and farther apart as the time moves on and separated because of their families . Despite of being separated and apart from each other they continue to stay in touch through emails and other means . However , years passes and rift between them grows even larger . However , Takaki remembers all those time spent together and begins to wonder if they will ever meet again or not .

As they start to see each other again and again , the story progresses with the deepening of their relationship .

The girl character , Hina , have a unique supernatural ability to change the weather . They both try to help people hoping for a good weather . In exchange for a good weather , a tragedy awaits them . The moving anime includes sensitive social themes like child rearing , poverty , etc.

The Girl who leapt through time , a 2006 released movie was directed by one of the Japanese animation leaders Mamoru Hosoda . This animated movie is literally Mamoru Hosada's masterpiece . It is based on the novel written by the best selling Sci-fi Japanese author Yasutaka Tsutsui in 1967 , but it tells the different story from the novel's one . 

The story is set 20 years after the world in novel . The movie features 3 main characters; Makoto , Kosuke and Chiyaki ordinary highschoolers living ordinary high school life . However , one day Makoto notices that she can transport herself to the past . Though at first she uses her ability to change her past to make her life easier but she soon realizes changing past have drastic consequences . The movie story proceeds with a 10-year-old girls Chihiro who wanders into a strange and weird world with her parents and tragically her parents are transformed into pigs due to a curse placed by a witch . She decides to work hard in the bath house under the rule of the witch named Yubaba to free her parents from the curse and get out of this strange world . There are various unique characters such as a key person Haku , twin witches Yubaba and Zeniba and a mystic creature kaonashi (no-face) . Thus the adventure starts .
